about us
The Story Behind Our Name
When it came time to name our clinic, we just had to look homeward.
One of our favorite hikes in the world is the Honey Creek Loop Trail in Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. Tucked away in the wild heart of the Cumberland Plateau, it’s a place that has brought us peace, joy, and connection for years. We’ve hiked it with our beloved dogs, Bridger and Hendrix, feeling more rooted with each visit. Although Bridger has passed, we look forward to bringing his spirit with us on every visit.
During our time living in Georgia, we missed the rustle of the trees, the cool creek crossings, and the kind of stillness that makes room for reflection and renewal. We missed the land itself, but also the lifestyle it represented: being close to nature, loved ones, and home.
As we started dreaming of building a veterinary clinic of our own, we kept circling back to what mattered most to us—not just great medicine, but warmth, community, and care. We wanted a place where people and pets felt known and supported. A place that brought back the kind of customer service and personal connection that seems harder and harder to find.
Binding it together with the name, Honey Creek Animal Clinic, felt like the perfect fit.
It’s a nod to the land we love, the dogs who shared the trail with us, and the life we’ve chosen to return to. It’s also a promise to infuse everything we do with that same warmth, kindness, and dedication.
Dr. Matthew Everett, a born-and-raised Tennessean, and Dr. Ellen Everett, who’s called Tennessee home since her family moved to Kingsport when she was young, both earned their veterinary degrees from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. You can read more about us below. We’re honored to serve Crossville and the surrounding communities with the same care and commitment we’d give our own family.
Welcome to Honey Creek Animal Clinic.
Our Veterinarians
Ellen Everett, DVM
Veterinarian / Owner
Dr. Ellen studied Biology at Sewanee: The University of the South and went on to earn her DVM from the University of Tennessee. Following graduation, she completed a year of additional training in Equine Medicine and Surgery at Mississippi State University, and spent a year in equine practice near Memphis. Afterward, she worked in various small animal practice settings until joining the faculty at the University of Georgia. There, she saw patients and taught small animal primary care to senior vet students. She immensely enjoyed her time as part of the UGA faculty, and plans to bring that level of excellence to Honey Creek Animal Clinic. Her greatest passion was teaching students to find a balance - always offering the “gold standard” treatment plan, as well as options that might be more practical for each individual pet and family. She plans to continue mentoring veterinary students by hosting students from various universities at Honey Creek.
Matthew Everett, DVM
